| Shannon Pike, Head Coach Bob Jones Competition Cheerleaders Shannon Pike joined the BJHS staff after establishing a long and successful background in cheerleading and dance. A graduate of Sparkman High School, she was the first freshman to ever make the Sparkman High School Varsity cheerleading squad. In 1993 she was a member of Sparkman’s UCA National Championship team that also took first place at regional and state competition. She was the Captain of the Sparkman team her senior year and was also named champion of the AHSAA Senior Individual Competition that year. A UCA All-Star, she also joined the UCA staff after high school and still serves as a judge for UCA staff try-outs today. After high school, Shannon attended the University of Alabama and received her degree in Education with a Minor in Dance. She was a cheerleader for the University from 1995-1996 and then joined the Crimson Cabaret, the University of Alabama dance team, from 1996 – 1998. While a college student, Shannon choreographed competition routines for several cheer and dance teams throughout Alabama and Georgia including Hoover, Gardendale, Monrovia, Sparkman, Roswell, Central, Hueytown and Hazel Green. Shannon’s coaching career has been equally impressive. She served as the Coach and Choreographer of the Crimson Cabaret for one year and her team placed highest in University history ranking third in the national UCA finals. She coached the Junior Varsity competition team at Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and then came to Madison, Alabama to continue her coaching career. Since joining the staff at Bob Jones High School, Shannon has served as Head Coach of the Competition Cheerleading program and won numerous championships (see Awards section of website) When not coaching the cheerleaders, Shannon teaches physical education, dance and aerobics at Bob Jones High School. Without a doubt Bob Jones High School is blessed to have a coach with such an impressive winning background. With her primary philosophy of “Preparation is the Key: Once the opportunity arrives, it’s too late to prepare” she sets the tone of readiness for all members of the BJHS competition cheerleading program. She believes the key to success is “Preparation in every aspect of the program: Mental and Physical” and works diligently to instill this attitude in everyone. With Coach Shannon Pike setting the goals and direction for the BJHS cheerleading program, it is easy to see how this history of success will continue long into the future! Coach Shannon Pike works with her squad moments before their appearance on ESPN2 at the 2004 UCA Nationals Kelly Jones, Junior Varsity Coach Bob Jones Competition Cheerleaders Kelly Jones is beginning her third year as the JV cheerleading coach at Bob Jones High School and already has established a winning history. Originally from Fort Payne, Alabama, she cheered throughout her high school years at Fort Payne High School and served as captain of her cheerleading squad during both her Junior and Senior Years. She was named a UCA All-Star cheerleader in her senior year and was also involved in a number of academic and civic organizations. Kelly graduated summa cum laude from The University of Alabama in 2002 with a B.S. in Secondary Education Since joining the cheerleading program at Bob Jones, Kelly has lead her cheerleaders to two UCA Regional championships, two second place AHSAA finishes and her squad ranked 9th in the nation at the UCA National Championships in 2002-2003 and 4th in the nation last year! Besides coaching at Bob Jones, Kelly teaches 10th and 11th grade English. During her first year at BJHS she was awarded the 2002-2003 Patriot Award as the New Teacher of the Year! Kelly’s philosophy toward building a winning program is “Practice and preparation are the keys to success!” She sets high goals for all of her cheerleaders, has high expectations for success and consistently provides the support and leadership to bring out the best in everyone she coaches. |
